Change Your Wi-Fi Router Default Username and Password
Both Wi-Fi and ASDL Routers or Modems have inbuilt Access Method where you can
access all the settings related to the modem. You can change your Modem
username and password to make it more secure against unwanted attack from the
hacker’s community. Not only can you change modem username and password but
also a variety of settings like routing of network, Router MAC Address, etc.
Not only does the username and password plays a vital role in securing a Router
but also the MAC Address, because a hacker can use the MAC address of the
Router to hack the Router even if he haven’t your username and password.
But, where comes the need to
change your default username and password of the Router?
It’s a secure and good practice
because if a hacker comes within your Wi-Fi Router’s Transmission Range,
he can use it to do some illicit activities both to the world and to you. Wi-Fi
& ASDL Routers of vendors providing Broadband services come with very weak
combination of username and password. Username can be your name, “Admin”, or
“Administrator”, or “localhost”, etc. And the default password is “admin” or
“password” or something like that. A hacker generally need not work harder to
guess your username and password combination to completely take your router
under his control.
Also, if this is a wireless
router, change the network name (often called SSID). While the router comes to
you with a network name set at the factory, you will never want to use this
name on your network.
For Example for BSNL ASDL Modem,
you can configure it by going to:
http://192.168.1.1/
Enter your default username
(“admin”) and password (“admin”) and login.

After that change your password
and click on Save Settings!
